Major of the Month: Marketing

Marketing majors have the unique experience of participating not only in academic work, but also in experiential and hands-on learning projects in courses offered by the Bryan School, courses like Principles of Marketing, International Marketing, and Marketing Research. In addition to these courses, the Bryan School has also recently added four new courses open to all majors in the area of Professional Selling. These courses allow students to solve to apply their academic knowledge and solve real marketing problems and develop marketing strategies for local businesses and organizations.

Some of the companies that marketing graduates have been hired to include: Atlantic Webworks of Greensboro, N.C., Polo Ralph Lauren, New York, N.Y., and McCann Erickson, Los Angeles, Calif.

A Student’s Perspective: Madison Landers, Senior Marketing Major

Madison came to UNCG with the idea that she wanted to major in some kind of business, but was unsure exactly which path to choose. She thought she might be interested in the field of Marketing, and after taking her first Marketing class, she was sold. When asked why she chose to be a Marketing major, she said

I love the creativity that can be used in marking, and the broad job market after graduation is attractive.

Favorite Marketing course: MKT 424 – Consumer Behavior

Internship Opportunities: During the summer of 2016, Madison interned in the marketing department at Liberty Hardware where she worked on a blog for The Home Depot and Lowe’s Home Improvement website. She is currently interning at the Interior Design Society as their Social Media Marketing Intern.

Job Outlook: One thing I love about marketing is that it is necessary for any kind of business. Once I graduate, I would like to work for a company whose product or service I am passionate about. Two industries that I am particularly interested in are the interior design and food industries. I love to cook and I love home decor, so I’m hoping to find a marketing job that relates to one of those.

Advisor of the Month

Ms. Amanda Everhart

Originally from Lexington, NC, Amanda received her Bachelor’s degree in Communication with a minor in Sociology from Appalachian State University. She went on to attend Grad school at UNCG, where she received her Master’s degree in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education.

Amanda is one of the Bryan School’s newest advisors. Before UNCG, Amanda worked at Davidson County Community College as a Student Success Coordinator for four years; she has been with the Bryan School for two years now, one as a graduate student intern, and one as a full time employee.

Amanda believes that as an advisor, it is her responsibility to give students the resources that they need to make well informed decisions about the courses they need each semester and to be the student liaison and or advocate for all campus resources outside the Bryan School.

What is your favorite part of being an advisor?

This job has combined two of my favorite things – meeting new people and solving puzzles or problems. Every student has a unique situation and it is my job to find out everything that I can about each of my students so that I can assemble his or her puzzle in a way that works best.

What are some words of advice for Bryan Students?

You can be anything that you want to be when you grow up! Take advantage of every new opportunity that comes your way and save the stressing for later!
