Background
Bonnie Canziani is an Associate Professor in the Joseph M. Bryan School of Business and Economics at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). From 2000 through 2011, she was the founding Director of the Hospitality and Tourism Program at UNCG. Dr. Canziani has supported university excellence in two critical service capacities: student outcomes assessment and global engagement, including university initiatives recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Dr. Canziani currently teaches primarily in undergraduate programs in the areas of service management and global/cultural issues. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Linguistics and the Masters and Doctorate in Hotel Administration (with training systems and organizational behavior foci) from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, She has considerable curricular development experience in hospitality management, having served over the past 30 years as founding faculty member, coordinator, and program director for programs both domestically and internationally. More recently, she has served as visiting faculty in the IAE MasterÕs Program in Lyon, France.
Dr. CanzianiÕs research focuses on the management of customer service relationships and business profitability in various sectors including hospitality, tourism, wine, and transportation. Since 2001, she has been involved in marketing and business research focused on the NC wine and grape industry, with more recent emphasis on wine tourism. She has published more than 35 articles in journals such as Tourism Management, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, International Journal of Wine Business Research, and the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, as well as editing/authoring two books and 8 book chapters. Dr. Canziani has consulted with major west-coast transit authorities as well as selected hospitality firms in the area of quality assurance and customer service. Her funded grant research spans transportation, public service, and wine industry studies. In the past five years she has received seven best paper awards for her research.
