Background
Randy Elder is the Department Head and Dixon Hughes Goodman (DHG) Term Professor for the Department of Accounting and Finance at UNCG. Dr. Elder earned his Ph.D. in Accounting from Michigan State University with a major in auditing and minors in the fields of finance, statistics, and economics. He joined the faculty of The Bryan School of Business and Economics as head of the Accounting and Finance Department in the 2017-18 academic year after serving more than 20 years at Syracuse University. Utilizing his professional and instructional expertise in the area of auditing, Dr. Elder co-authored the leading auditing textbook, which is used at UNCG and in business schools both nationally and internationally. He is the instructor for the Auditing Concepts course in the Bryan School.
Dr. Elder’s research interests include government auditing, audit sampling, audit confirmations, and audit pricing. He has an extensive publication record of more than 40 articles in various discipline-based accounting and auditing journals including The Accounting Review, Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory, Journal of Accounting, Auditing & Finance, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, and Issues in Accounting Education. He serves on the editorial boards of several accounting and auditing journals and is currently the Associate Editor of Issues in Accounting Education. Dr. Elder’s professional affiliations include membership in the American Accounting Association and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
