Faculty and Staff

Venkat Iyer joined the faculty of UNCG in 1999 and currently serves as a Professor of Accounting in the Bryan School of Business and Economics. Dr. Iyer received his Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Georgia and went on to serve as an Assistant Professor at Georgia College and State University and Wright State University before coming to UNCG. With primary teaching interests in the areas of Accounting Information Systems, Auditing, Information Systems Audit, and Fraud Examination, Dr. Iyer has taught courses in these disciplines at both the undergraduate and graduate level and is a past recipient of the Bryan School Teaching Excellence Award for Tenured Faculty. During his tenure at UNCG, he has served the Bryan School in various capacities including membership on the Bryan School Committee on Research, the Promotion and Tenure Committee, Chair of the ACF Planning and Development Committee, and has served as past Director of the MSA Program.

While placing a high value on rigorous research with practical implications, Dr. Iyer’s primary research interests lie in the areas of (1) behavioral issues in accounting firms such as organizational identification, satisfaction and employee turnover and (2) regulation and policy issues related to auditing. His research in these, and other, areas has been published by Accounting, Organizations, and Society, Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, Accounting Horizons, Managerial Auditing Journal, and Advances in Accounting Behavioral Research, among others. He is a two-time grant recipient from the Institute of Internal Auditors Research Foundation. Dr. Iyer also serves on the editorial board of Accounting Horizons and is a member of the Board of Governors of The Institute of Internal Auditors, Triad Chapter. Professional affiliations include the American Accounting Association, The Institute of Internal Auditors, The Association of Fraud Examiners, and The Information Systems Audit and Control Association. Dr. Iyer is a licensed CPA in the state of North Carolina.
