Background

Ambrose Jones received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2007. Dr. Jones is also a Certified Public Accountant and practiced in national public accounting firms for over 30 years prior to entering the PhD program at VCU in 2003. He was an audit partner with RSM, LLP from 1980 to 2003, where he served as a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) specialist, along with having client service and audit quality control responsibilities. At RSM, Dr. Jones participated in international assignments in Europe, Asia and Africa. While earning his doctorate at VCU, during 2006-2007, Dr. Jones was also the training director in the Independence Office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP where he developed and conducted audit and accounting training and career development courses for professional staff members, along with helping to coordinate firm-wide independence training.

At UNCG, Dr. Jones teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in auditing and financial accounting. In 2012, he served as the Academic Director of a summer program at Nanjing University in China, where he also taught financial and managerial accounting courses. Dr. Jones’ research interests include: behavioral issues in a public accounting environment, including job stress, job outcomes, and decision making; auditor independence; risk containment and client continuance. His research has been published in Behavioral Research in Accounting, Accounting Horizons, Issues in Accounting Education, Advances in Accounting Behavioral Research and other journals.

Dr. Jones’ service to UNCG has included chairing the University Faculty Committee for Intercollegiate Athletics and faculty search committees. Currently, he chairs the Accounting Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and represents the Accounting faculty on the Accounting and Finance (ACF) Advisory Council. Dr. Jones also serves as the Honors College Liaison for the ACF Department.
