Background
Lijun (Gillian) Lei is a Kathleen Price Bryan Dean’s Notable Scholar in the Department of Accounting and Finance of the Bryan School of Business and Economics and serves as an Assistant Professor in Accounting. Dr. Lei joined the faculty at UNCG in 2017 after receiving her Ph.D. in Accounting and Information Systems from Virginia Tech. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from Shanghai Jiaotong University (China) and a Master of Science in Accountancy from University of Notre Dame. Prior to pursuing an academic career, Dr. Lei worked as an assurance associate for PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Dr. Lei’s current course instruction includes financial and managerial accounting in the MBA program and a graduate level seminar in contemporary accounting issues. In recognition of her achievements in the classroom, Dr. Lei was awarded the Bryan School Junior Teaching Excellence Award for the 2018-2019 academic year. Her research interests include financial reporting, non-financial disclosure, executive compensation, and data analytics. She has published in such journals as the Journal of Business Research, Journal of Information Systems and the Journal of Accounting Literature. Dr. Lei has presented her research at both the university setting and national conferences. She is a Certified Public Accountant (active) and a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (charter pending on professional experience). Her professional memberships include the American Accounting Association and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
