Vladislav Maksimov is an Assistant Professor and a Margaret Hill Dean’s Notable Scholar in the Management Department of the Bryan School of Business and Economics at University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is the recipient of the 2020 Junior Research Excellence Award by the Bryan School and in 2019 was recognized by the Provost for excellence in research and creative activity. Vladislav teaches the undergraduate capstone strategy course and a graduate course on global business in the Master of Science in International Business program. Vladislav received an Open Educational Resources Mini-Grant sponsored by the Provost and the University Libraries to reduce cost of learning materials to students in his undergraduate course.
In his research, Vladislav examines the entrepreneurial and capability-based strategies of businesses around the world in response to unique institutional forces, with an emphasis on those in emerging markets and developing countries. Primary areas of inquiry include small and medium enterprises strategy, emerging market multinationals strategy, and the role of business organizations in environmental and social dimensions of sustainability, with a focus on the development and exploitation of dynamic capabilities, including entrepreneurial orientation and organizational ambidexterity. Recently, Vladislav has also started to study the conditions for successful utilization of digital platforms for global cooperation and knowledge exchange. Theoretically, Vladislav’s work aims to contribute to institutional perspectives, capability and knowledge-based perspectives, and theories of internationalization and the multinational enterprise. His publications on these topics appear in leading academic journals, including Journal of World Business, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Management Studies, Management and Organization Review, and Journal of Business Research. His research has been nominated for best conference paper awards and published in conference best paper proceedings. Vladislav was also awarded the Journal of World Business 2018 Best Phenomenon-Based Article Award.
