Kenneth A. Snowden is an Emeritus Professor of Economics at the University of North Carolina Greensboro and a Research Associate with the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He has written extensively on the development of the U.S. mortgage market before 1940 and is co-author of Well Worth Saving: How the New Deal Safeguarded Homeownership (University of Chicago, 2013) and co-editor of Housing and Mortgage Markets in Historical Perspective (University of Chicago, 2014). He is currently working on issues related to the mortgage crisis of the 1930’s: the transition from Building & Loans to Savings & Loans, the impacts of New Deal housing programs, and the historical development of the U.S. mortgage market.
Ken completed his B.S at East Tennessee State University and earned the M.S. and Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1983. Since then he has been on the faculty at UNC-Greensboro and has served as a visiting faculty member at Vassar College and Cornell, Indiana and Harvard Universities. He teaches Economic History, Money & Banking and Macroeconomics at the graduate and undergraduate level.
