Dr. David Upton
Department of Accounting and Finance
David Upton received his Ph.D. from Indiana University in 2006. His teaching interests are in the areas of Cost and Managerial Accounting. He previously taught at Massey University in New Zealand. He also taught a summer graduate course at the Fachhochschule, Worms (Germany). For the past several years David has also taught in the Bryan SchoolÕs Executive Education programs, including the GMP (formerly PMD) course and the Finance and Accounting for Non-Financial Managers course (taught at UNCG, Mexico, and California). His research interests include managerial accounting and tax with a behavioral/experimental emphasis, and various topics relevant to practitioner audiences.
He has published in discipline-based journals including Accounting, Organizations, & Society, Journal of Management Accounting Research, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, the Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting, and Management Accounting Quarterly. He has also published in practitioner journals including the CPA Journal, Strategic Finance, and Tax Notes. David is a member of the American Accounting Association, the Institute of Management Accountants, where he currently serves as president of the Piedmont-Triad, NC Chapter, and a past member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.
