As the late Lilly Pulitzer once said, “Style isn’t just about what you wear, it’s about how you live.” Sadly, on August 10th, the world lost an incredible woman who not only lived by these words, but had more “style” than Pulitzer herself could have comprehended. Wendy Leigh Pearce, passed away with family and friends surrounding her in love, comfort and support.
Leigh began her professional journey in 2009, establishing what became her life’s passion: Leigh Pearce Weddings, which later became Leigh Pearce Events. Her incredible gift of service and love for a good ol’ Southern celebration inspired many, influenced great love stories, and created amazing memories and lasting friendships. As Leigh poured her heart and soul into her business, she was impacted, inspired and encouraged by her fellow colleagues. She, in turn, made sure to pay it forward by giving back to the next generation of would-be hospitality professionals. Leigh spent countless hours at her alma mater, UNCG, giving seminars about being an entrepreneur as well as teaching students about building their own brands.
Leigh made such an impression on the program that she was often tapped to take interns under her loving wing–several of whom became full-time staff upon graduation. To say that she had an impact on the industry would be an understatement. To preserve what Leigh built, her sister, Whitney, has stepped up to run the company and carry out so many of the magical plans Leigh had for her clients.
We are so deeply saddened that she left this world tragically and far too early, however, we will continue to honor her memory with the creation of the Wendy Leigh Pearce Scholarship. Her friends and family have set a goal of $10,000 to create a fund that will help students pursuing a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management for a number of years. IF we can grow the fund to $25,000 it will fully endow the scholarship–meaning the fund will produce income and help students for as long as the school exists!
We ask that you consider making a tax-deductible donation to this fund, and honor Leigh for the spirited, vibrant force that she was for so many.
