How well a business succeeds depends greatly on customer research, communication style, marketing strategy, branding of products, and the use of marketing tools to maximum advantage to increase sales. Marketing and sales represent the revenue generating arm of a firm that determines its success and sustainability. Having such a direct effect on the success of an organization can be very satisfying and rewarding.

Drawing on the unique breadth of faculty members’ industry experiences, you will be taught the art and science of U.S. and global marketing through experiential and hands-on learning.

Learn through real-world selling experience

MKT/ENT-324: Professional Selling

This course utilizes experiential learning to provide the students with some examples of what professional salespeople do in their daily activities. It combines a real-world selling experience in the sports/entertainment area with additional role-playing exercises to hone student presentation skills.

Sales representatives from area organizations will speak to your class. These representatives are often looking to hire students for their sales force. This course is open to all undergraduate students regardless of major.

Gain insight on international marketing issues

MKT-426: International Marketing

Through a comprehensive, team-based project called “Export Odyssey”, students gain a global marketing outlook.

Students will be provided access electronic databases to create and implement strategic initiatives to build marketplace awareness of products to formulate and facilitate transactional exchanges with domestic and international companies.

Develop a strategic view of marketing

MKT-429: Advanced Marketing Management

This course involves advanced analysis and decision-making techniques in marketing with a strategic view. There is a major group project that involves working with organizations to develop and present an actual marketing plan.

Through marketing consulting, students provide innovative solutions for brand creation and extension to local and national companies, through brand audits and the development of implementable marketing plans. Practical knowledge and problem-solving skills are gained through this unique project experience.

Facts about Marketing

Marketing majors learn and apply skills that are critical to success in the marketplace. You learn material via coursework and then apply that knowledge in hands-on experiences, often working with client firms.

You will have the opportunity to engage in customer segmentation studies, develop a strategic marketing plan, design advertising or promotional plans for firms, and even close some sales if your plans are successful.
