The Bryan School of Business has a team of professional advisors who work with students from orientation to graduation. Here are some commonly asked questions about advising:

The University requires you to work with your assigned advisor each fall and spring term in preparation for registration in the following term. Academic advising for course selection and registration typically takes place in late September (for spring and summer classes) and late February (for summer and fall classes). Advisors work normal business hours throughout the year. You will have access to your assigned advisor’s appointment schedule through Starfish.
Appointments can be in-person, by phone, or by video chat. Students must schedule their appointment using Starfish no matter what mode of communication. In-person appointments are held in Suite 301 in the Bryan Building. For phone appointments, your assigned advisor will call you, which means you must provide an active and working phone number in the notes of the Starfish appointment.
Video chat appointments are also available through your UNCG email using the Google Hangout tools.
Your advisor’s primary goal is to assist you with course planning and selection. Advisors depend on you to be proactive in defining and expressing your academic goals. You are strongly encouraged to discuss your academic goals with your advisor regularly to stay on track with graduation requirements or other academic goals.
While you are responsible for registering yourself for classes, advisors can guide you through unexpected registration difficulties. Your advisor is also a great resource if you are experiencing academic difficulties or want to know more about co-curricular opportunities like study abroad or academic honors.
Finally, we know that academic goals are always intertwined with long-term personal and professional goals. Students are welcome to schedule appointments to talk with advisors about these more involved matters. Advisors work throughout the year by appointment to assist students with graduation plans, goal-setting, and success strategies.
You and your assigned advisor have access to Degree Works reports in UNCGenie which lists your degree requirements. Degree Works is connected to your academic records to show the courses you have already successfully completed and lists the remaining requirements necessary for graduation. How to Schedule an Advising Appointment
