Lauren Perdue Earns Prestigious PCAOB Scholarship

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) Scholarship is the largest and most prestigious scholarship awarded to a UNCG student. This year, the Accounting and Finance Scholarship Committee selected Lauren Perdue as the 2023 recipient.

Lauren is an Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP) student who is earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She will graduate with her bachelor’s degree in December 2023 and complete her Master of Science in Accounting in December 2024.

Choosing the Bryan School

The Bryan School first drew Lauren to UNCG. She appreciated its smaller class sizes and its dual AACSB accreditation in both business and accounting. In addition, the Accelerated Master’s Program appealed to her because of its strong CPA exam pass rates and excellent job placement.

Lauren discovered her passion for accounting during her first accounting class in high school. She enjoyed the organization and balance the discipline required. As a result, she decided to pursue accounting as a career.

Today, she is taking the CPA Exam and hopes to complete it before earning her master’s degree.

Building a Career in Accounting

Lauren has already accepted a position with RSM in Charlotte, where she will begin her career as an Audit Associate after graduation.

Looking ahead, she plans to earn the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential and transition into forensic accounting.

Leading Through Service

Beyond the classroom, Lauren has served as secretary and recorder for UNCG’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter since spring 2022. In that role, she tracks members’ participation in professional meetings, community service and tutoring.

Her dedication earned her the Accounting and Finance Department Service Award during the Spring 2023 ACF Celebration. The award recognizes her outstanding service to the department.

Giving Back

Outside of school, Lauren enjoys reading Agatha Christie novels and crocheting. Recently, she has focused on making stuffed animals that she donates to others. She also crochets plastic grocery bags into durable doormats. In doing so, she helps recycle plastic that might otherwise end up in landfills.

Through her academic excellence, leadership and commitment to service, Lauren exemplifies the qualities the PCAOB Scholarship recognizes.
