Entrepreneurship major Julian Weichel gave a talk at the Office of Multicultural Affairs on February 4th about his study abroad experience in South Africa as part of the MRC Art Series.

Here is what he said along with some photos taken during his study abroad:

“My name is Julian Weichel and I am an Entrepreneurship major. I studied abroad at University of Cape Town, South Africa in Spring 2013.
I can’t begin to explain how awesome my experience was. My parents lived in Cape Town from 1975-1980. Then we went there on vacation about 7 years ago, so when I saw it on the study abroad options, I had no doubt in my mind that I wanted to go there. I lived in a house right off campus, with 5 girls who were from the U.S., Germany, and the Netherlands. I took four classes while I was there. They follow the British school system which I liked, apart from the fact that most of your grade was based on your final exam. I tried to make the most of my time while I was there, mainly by getting out and exploring with friends. I also joined the yacht club, and an organization called Teach Out, where we would go into the townships and teach English and math. This was an extremely rewarding experience. I made many life long friends and connections while I was there that will help me in my career. I loved everything about South Africa, from the culture to the pure beauty of it. I am definitely going to visit there again, and I hope to move there some day.”
