The UNC Greensboro Bryan School of Business and Economics’ chapter of the National Millennial and Gen Z Community (NMGZ) is at it again. This semester Tahreem Rehman, a senior Information Systems and Supply Chain Management and accelerated Master’s in Information Technology and Management student, was one of several Bryan School NMGZ members to travel to Chicago, IL. Before the trip, Tahreem was excited about the prospect of connecting with students from different colleges, learning about their experiences, and engaging with professionals to uncover the secrets of their success.
During the trip, students met with representatives from several influential organizations, including NBC Chicago, Public Communications, Inc., and McDonald’s HQ. “We also visited the United Center and Walmart, where we participated in a challenge that gave us a real look at operations and problem-solving in action,” Tahreem said. She remembers particularly enjoying hearing about the strategies and leadership practices at McDonald’s and how they have evolved over the years.

While there were many great and insightful takeaways there was one that stood out to Tahreem.
“Without a doubt, the Milestones in Mentoring Gala was the highlight of the trip. Hearing about the impact mentors have on their mentees and how those relationships shape their careers was so inspiring,” she said. From this event, she reflected on the importance of mentorship and how it actively guides personal and professional growth. “It made me realize how valuable mentorship can be for growth, and I plan to focus more on building those relationships moving forward,” she said.

The National Millennial and Gen Z Community is comprised of college and university students, young professionals, faculty, administrators, and civic leaders who participate in multi-generational conversations with an eye toward the future. Trips like these are part of the organization’s mission to create a safe environment where ideas are exchanged and an emphasis is placed on awareness and understanding.
UNCG’s Bryan School is home to the only NMGZ chapter in the state of North Carolina.
Tahreem’s advice for future students looking to join the community would be to come in with an open mind and a genuine interest in learning from others. “There are so many great networking opportunities, so don’t be afraid to ask questions and connect with people. Take full advantage of everything the trip offers whether it’s gaining industry insights or building lasting relationships with fellow students,” she said.
