UNCG considers you a transfer student if you have at least 24 transferable college credit hours from an accredited institution after high school and are eligible to return to the last institution you attended. Transfer applicants are generally expected to have at least a 2.0 overall and transferable GPA. Students with fewer than 24 transferable hours may need to meet both transfer and first-year admission requirements.

Your associate-degree type can change how your credits enter UNCG and which transfer pathway is most useful.

AALiberal arts / general educationEligible NC community-college graduates can use the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA).

AASCareer/technical preparationQualifying business-related AAS degrees can use the Bryan School’s AAS Business Guarantee.

For eligible North Carolina community college students who complete an AA or AS with at least a 2.0 GPA and qualifying grades, the statewide Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) is designed to make transfer smoother. UNCG states that qualifying graduates receive up to 64 transfer credit hours and have the university’s lower-division general education requirements fulfilled. That does not mean every requirement for a business major is automatically complete; prerequisites and major-specific courses still matter.

UNCG allows up to 64 semester hours from two-year institutions to apply toward an undergraduate degree. To earn a bachelor’s degree from UNCG, students must complete at least 31 credit hours at UNCG.

The more important question is not only how many credits transfer, but how they apply. A course may satisfy a general education requirement, a prerequisite, a major requirement, or an elective. That distinction can affect your remaining time to degree.

If a business course has not already been evaluated, a Bryan School transfer-course review may be needed after you work with your advisor. The Bryan School notes that business courses from two-year institutions are most often not accepted as 300-level or higher credit, so planning early is especially important for upper-level major requirements.

The AAS Business Guarantee creates a direct pathway for students who have completed, or are completing, a qualifying business-related Associate of Applied Science at a North Carolina community college. UNCG currently lists seven qualifying AAS fields: Accounting, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Information Technology, Office Administration, Real Estate, and Supply Chain Management.

Students with a qualifying AAS can pursue any Bryan School degree, with up to 64 transfer credits depending on their associate degree and chosen bachelor’s program. The pathway can lead into Bryan School degree areas including accounting, business administration, entrepreneurship, finance, marketing, economics, information systems and supply chain management, hospitality and tourism management, international business, and other current Bryan School options.

This is particularly important for AAS students because applied degrees do not always transfer in the same way as an AA or AS. The guarantee gives additional credits for qualifying business students who complete their AAS degree, allowing them to finish their bachelor’s degree sooner.

Students transferring from community colleges outside North Carolina can also transfer to UNCG and the Bryan School. However, North Carolina-specific agreements such as the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement and AAS Business Guarantee may not apply. Your previous coursework will be evaluated to determine how individual credits apply toward your UNCG and Bryan School degree requirements.

Transfer students talking to one another

There is no single transfer timeline. Your remaining time depends on how many credits apply to your degree, which prerequisites you have completed, your major, your course load, and whether you take summer or winter courses.

A student who enters with a well-aligned associate degree may be positioned to complete the remaining bachelor’s requirements in roughly two years of full-time study, but that should be treated as a planning scenario, not a guarantee. Some students need additional prerequisites; others attend part time because they are working or caring for family.

The best way to get a realistic answer is to have an advisor map your remaining requirements term by term. A graduation plan can show which courses must be taken in sequence and where summer, winter, online, or lighter-load semesters may fit.

The Bryan School offers more than 20 undergraduate business program options across areas such as accounting, business administration, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, hospitality and tourism management, information systems and supply chain management, international business, marketing, and consumer, apparel, and retail studies. Concentrations allow students to narrow their focus further in areas such as business analytics, cybersecurity, digital marketing, professional selling, sports business, and supply chain.

Program availability and concentration names can change, so transfer students should compare the current undergraduate program list with the courses they have already completed before choosing a major.

For many programs, yes. The Bryan School offers a broad selection of online undergraduate business options, which can be especially useful for transfer students who are working, supporting a family, or living outside Greensboro.

Online students still have access to advising and university resources. The Bryan School describes campus participation for online students as optional: students may use in-person resources and attend events, but online degree students are not required to come to campus simply to access the program.

Because not every major or concentration is necessarily offered in every format, check the current program page before making a transfer plan based on online availability.

Your cost to finish a degree at UNCG depends on how many transferred credits apply to your degree, how many credits you still need to complete, your residency and enrollment status, and the financial aid or scholarships you receive.

After your transfer credits are evaluated, use your remaining degree requirements and UNCG’s current tuition and fees to estimate your cost to graduation. Then factor in grants, scholarships, employer assistance, and other financial aid. Because tuition, fees, and aid can change, use current UNCG figures and your individual financial aid package when estimating what you may pay.

1. Choose a direction. Explore Bryan School majors and identify two or three that fit your career goals.

2. Check your transfer pathway. If you have community college credits but no associate degree, review how your individual courses may transfer. If you are completing an AA or AS at an NC community college, review the CAA pathway. If you have a qualifying business AAS, review the AAS Business Guarantee.

3. Preview your credits. Use UNCG’s transfer resources to see how courses have transferred previously. Treat this as planning guidance until your official evaluation is complete.

4. Connect with UNCG. A transfer admissions counselor or Bryan School undergraduate recruiter can help you understand application steps, program format, and questions to ask about your credits.

5. Apply and send official transcripts. UNCG requires official college transcripts from institutions you have attended. A standard transfer application fee applies unless you qualify for a waiver.

6. Review your official credit evaluation. After admission and transcript review, look at how each course applies to your intended degree, not simply the total number of accepted hours.

7. Build a graduation plan. Work with your Bryan School advisor to map remaining prerequisites, upper-level business courses, major requirements, and a realistic completion timeline.

Transfer student story

“I’ve loved that every step of the way the professors and advisors make sure students know they’re still included, no matter what kind of student you are. You can be an online transfer student like me or you can attend classes in person, and there are still so many resources out there to meet employers and really develop those hard and soft skills that are going to help you out in the workplace.”

What GPA do I need to transfer to UNCG?

UNCG lists an overall and transferable GPA of at least 2.0 for transfer admission. You must also be in good standing and eligible to return to your last institution.

How many credits can I transfer from a community college?

Up to 64 semester hours from two-year institutions may apply toward a UNCG undergraduate degree. How those credits apply to your specific Bryan School degree determines how many requirements remain.

Will an AA or AS transfer differently from an AAS?

Yes. Eligible NC community-college AA and AS graduates can benefit from the statewide Comprehensive Articulation Agreement. AAS credits are normally more program-specific, but qualifying business AAS students have a dedicated Bryan School pathway through the AAS Business Guarantee.

Does the AAS Business Guarantee mean I am guaranteed admission?

For students earning or holding one of the qualifying business-related AAS degrees from an NC community college, UNCG currently states that admission is guaranteed once the application is completed. Degree requirements and course sequencing still apply after admission.

Can I transfer into an online Bryan School program?

Yes, many Bryan School undergraduate business programs are available online. Check the current program list to confirm that your intended major or concentration is offered in the format you need.

Can I know exactly how my credits transfer before I apply?

You can use UNCG transfer tools to see prior equivalencies, but Bryan School advisors do not provide final transfer equivalencies before university admission. Official transcripts must be evaluated before credits are formally applied.

Can I finish in two years after community college?

Some students with well-aligned transfer credit may be able to finish in about two years of full-time study, but the timeline depends on the degree, prerequisites, course sequencing, and your enrollment pace. An advisor can build a term-by-term plan.

What is the best first step if I am not sure which pathway applies to me?

Start by identifying the community college credits you have completed, whether you earned an associate degree, and your intended business area. Then connect with a UNCG transfer counselor or Bryan School undergraduate recruiter. They can direct you to the appropriate admissions, credit transfers, and program resources.

Have Questions?

You do not have to map the transfer process by yourself. Bryan School undergraduate recruiters can help you explore program options, understand online and on-campus formats, and identify the right next step. After admission, academic advisors can help turn your official transfer-credit evaluation into a graduation plan.
