The dean of UNC Greensboro’s Bryan School of Business and Economics has been elected to become chair of the Board of Directors for the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Dean McRae C. Banks will serve three consecutive one-year terms as vice chair-chair elect, chair, and immediate past chair.

“This is quite an honor,” said Banks. “I was stunned when the current chair called me and told me they wanted me to run. I discussed it with my wife and leaders in my office and they were all supportive. I then spoke with the provost, and he with the chancellor, and they also expressed support, so I agreed.”

AACSB, a global nonprofit, is the largest and longest-serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting. Since 1916, the organization has provided quality assurance, business education intelligence, and learning and development services to more than 1,700 member organizations and more than 840 accredited business schools worldwide.

Banks, who serves as a board member, will assume his new role of vice chair-chair elect July 1. As vice chair-chair elect, he will lead the Board Planning meeting each year and serve on various committees dedicated to innovation and business accreditation policy.

As chair, Banks will serve as Conference Chair at the Deans Conference and International Conference Annual Meeting, make appointments to the Board of Directors, and work closely with various committees and task forces within the organization.

The Bryan School holds dual accreditation in business and accounting from AACSB – a distinction held by only 1 percent of business schools in the world.

“It is my hope the appointment brings a spotlight to the incredible things we are doing collectively and individually at the Bryan School,” said Banks. “The school is well-deserving of the spotlight.”
