Threads hosted its 7th Annual Pink Power Fashion Show on November 10th 2024 in the Elliot University Center Cone Ballroom.

Threads is one of three student organizations in the Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies Department and provides a variety of networking opportunities where students can interface with industry professionals and learn about prospective internship opportunities. They also host several professional development workshops throughout the academic year where students learn interview skills and how to construct proper resumes.

The Pink Power Fashion Show is one of two fashion shows that students conduct alongside Dr. Grace Bang and Dr. Trish Kemerly, who serve as the Threads faculty advisors.

“It takes a significant amount of time and commitment to put on a fashion show, and it is so much more than just creating the designs. Our students are responsible for planning and marketing the show, ticket sales, getting sponsors, securing a space, and booking vendors for music, lights, and photography. They not only demonstrate their creative abilities, but they are actively honing their business skills as well. I am always impressed with their talent and dedication.” said Dr. Trish Kemerly.

This year, there were 80 students involved in planning and executing the show, and close to 50 garments were presented. The pink and nude toned garments were designed in support of breast cancer awareness.

Audience members also gained a first-hand look at special appearances from CARS Alum, Cassidy Burrel who showcased 11 pieces from her new Fall Collection, The Modern Bride. “This year’s collection was inspired by florals because just like women, they are all uniquely different and beautiful in their own way.”

CARS is proud to announce that the proceeds from the fashion show benefited the non-profit organization, Living Beyond Breast Cancer, who provides a variety of programs and a network of support for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Congratulations to all our student designers and up-cyclers who created garments for this year’s show, and special thanks to our faculty members and those who contributed to making the show a success!
