Flexible Formats and Programs to Meet Market Demand
The Bryan School of Business and Economics at UNC Greensboro received approval to offer two additional master’s degree programs online. As of Fall 2020, all master’s programs through the Bryan School will be available online. The two new programs include an M.S. in Accounting and an M.A. in Applied Economics. The online economics master’s program will be the only such program at a public school in North Carolina.
In addition to the new online master’s programs, the Bryan School is offering three new online graduate certificate programs. These new certificates are economics of health analytics, quantitative business economics, and taxation. Certificate programs provide students the opportunity to build skills, explore new career options, and to experience graduate-level courses before applying to a master’s degree program.
“Increasingly, we hear students say that they need more flexibility and that they want to customize their learning experience,” said Bryan School Dean McRae Banks. “The pace of change in the workplace today means that more people are discovering the need to become lifelong learners. By offering certificate and degree programs, online and on campus options, and a range of specialty degrees, we are responding to the needs of these individuals and their employers.”
The Bryan School began offering the MBA program for experienced professionals online in Fall 2019 and is already seeing positive results.
“We saw a 57% increase in admitted students for this program for the Spring 2020 semester compared to Spring 2019,” said Bill Brown, associate dean. “We attribute that increase to the new online option. Working professionals are selecting that option over the traditional classroom format.”
