What is Beta Alpha Psi?

Founded in 1919, Beta Alpha Psi is an honor organization for financial information students and professionals. There are over 300 chapters on college and university campuses with over 300,000 members initiated since Beta Alpha Psi’s formation.

The mission of Beta Alpha Psi, the premier international honor and service organization for financial and business information students and professionals, is to inspire and support excellence by:

  • encouraging the study and practice of accountancy, finance, and information systems;
  • providing opportunities for service, professional development, and interaction among members and financial professionals; and
  • fostering lifelong ethical, social, and public responsibilities.

The Zeta Chi Chapter was chartered at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1984. What does this mean for you? Beta Alpha Psi provides opportunities at UNCG to:

  • Learn about careers in managerial and public accounting.
  • Make contacts with corporate and public accounting firms.
  • Provide tutoring support to other students.
  • Get involved with community service activities.
  • Network with other accounting students.

Who can join?

Membership in Beta Alpha Psi includes those persons of good moral character who have achieved scholastic and/or professional excellence in the field of accounting and who successfully complete a one-semester candidacy period.

Eligibility for Candidacy leading to Membership:

  • BS in Accounting students who meet the following criteria are generally eligible to become candidates:
    • Completed or be currently enrolled in ACC 318
    • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • Fully-admitted MS in Accounting students are automatically eligible.

What is required?

For the first semester in Beta Alpha Psi, you are a Candidate. After successfully completing the candidacy requirements, you are initiated as a member of Beta Alpha Psi. A member is then required to remain in good standing to participate in Beta Alpha Psi events, including all of its social, professional, and recruiting events in all subsequent semesters.

Candidacy Requirements

All candidates must participate in the tutoring lab. They are required to tutor one hour every week during their pledge semester. A total of ten hours is required. Each pledge chooses the weekly time frame to tutor that fits their schedule best.

Candidates must attend all but one of the weekly meetings (Mondays from 5:00 pm until 5:50 pm) during the semester. Students in their final semester of their program are not eligible to become candidates.

Member Requirements

Members must attend all but one of the weekly meetings during the semester.

Officer Requirements

Members in good standing are eligible to run for officer’s positions.
