UNCG has been home to the Iota Chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon – International Honor Society for Economics since 1973. To become a member, students must fulfill the eligibility requirements set out below and must register for membership status. Please contact the Chapter’s advisor, Mr. Eric Howard (eshoward@uncg.edu) to express interest in joining.
Undergraduate student minimum requirements include:
- Completed at least 12 credit hours in economics
- Earned a 3.0 GPA or higher in economics courses
- Maintained a 3.0 overall GPA
- Have declared economics as their major
Graduate student minimum requirements include:
- Completed at least one semester of full-time graduate work
- Earned a 3.0 GPA or higher in economics coursework
The Economics Department will pay the one-time $50 fee for lifetime membership on behalf of each prospective member of Omicron Delta Epsilon upon election to the Society. In return, the member receives a membership card, scroll a year’s subscription (two issues) to The American Economist, and access to the ODE merchandise store.
Beginning in Fall 2026, an induction ceremony will be held near the end of each term to welcome new members.
The following are just a few of the benefits ODE members enjoy:
- International recognition of academic excellence in economics
- Eligibility to compete for student leadership and research awards
- ODE sponsored meetings at the annual conventions of regional, national, and international associations
